Does UM offer any discounts for open access publications or waivers for publication fees?

Yes, for both BMJ and PLOS options - see details below.

BMJ:

University of Miami faculty, students, staff, and UM/JMH residents can submit cases to BMJ Case Reports free of charge. BMJ Case Reports is a peer-reviewed journal dedicated to publishing case reports. For more information, please refer to the Instructions to Authors on the BMJ Case Reports site: https://casereports.bmj.com/pages/authors/.

When you are ready to submit your manuscript, follow these steps:

1. Go to http://casereports.bmj.com.
2. Use the “submit a case report” link.
3. Register or log in. You will need to use your UM/JHS institutional email address when you register.
4. Go to the “Author Center” section.
5. Use the “submit a new manuscript” link.
6. In the Details & Comments section, enter the fellowship code.

To obtain the fellowship code, please send an email request to reference@med.miami.edu from your UM/JMH email address with the subject line "BMJ Case Reports Code Request."

PLOS:

From January 1, 2022 through December 31, 2024, research papers accepted for publication in any of the twelve PLOS journals will not incur article processing charges (APCs) if the paper’s corresponding author is affiliated with the University of Miami.
